Chatham County meets Skidaway Island residents 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, on the Green Island Road path, a Diamond Causeway signal and Lake Street upgrades.

Chatham County will hold a community meeting on Skidaway Island at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4. It is about the island’s roads and paths.

The meeting is in Bailey Hall at Skidaway Island Methodist Church, 54 Diamond Causeway. The county announced it in a release on Oct. 23.

The release lists four topics:

  • the Green Island Road path
  • the Diamond Causeway path
  • a four-way traffic light in front of the main gate
  • upgrades at the Lake Street intersection

The release does not say who will present or whether the meeting will be streamed. Skidaway Island is unincorporated, so these are county projects, run by the Chatham County Department of Engineering.

What the county’s project pages say

The Green Island Road path. The county’s project page describes an off-road, multipurpose trail beside Green Island Road. It would run about 2.1 miles, from Diamond Causeway to the cul-de-sac.

  • The Georgia Department of Transportation approved the concept in June 2025.
  • The project is now in right-of-way acquisition, and the page says that work has started.
  • The page says the project is on schedule to go out to construction bids in November 2027.

The Diamond Causeway signal and path. A second project page covers the intersection of Diamond Causeway with Green Island Road and McWhorter Drive. It is in final design. The county lists three parts:

  • a traffic signal and lighting to replace the four-way stop, plus right-turn lanes on Diamond Causeway at Green Island Road and on McWhorter Drive
  • a 10-foot multi-use path on the south side of Diamond Causeway, linking the future Green Island Road path to the Lake Street and Westcross Road intersection
  • new equipment at the Lake Street and Westcross Road intersection with Diamond Causeway, to current GDOT standards

Neither page gives a cost, a funding source or a construction date for the signal.

What it means for you

If you live on Skidaway Island or drive Diamond Causeway, this is the meeting to raise questions about where the paths run, when the signal goes in and how construction will affect traffic. The release lists no RSVP.

Questions before the meeting can go to the county’s project manager, Tina Bockhold, at GreenIslandRoadPath@chathamcounty.org for the path. The Department of Engineering’s main line is (912) 652-7800.
